About our presenters

Michael Wiklund, principal consultant

Michael Wiklund is a principal consultant with Emergo by UL – the human factors engineering practice within UL Solutions. He has served as General Manager of the consulting practice with teams based in the U.S., the U.K., The Netherlands and Japan. Today, his role involves introducing customers to human factors and helping to address their major technical and regulatory challenges. Prior to joining UL Solutions, he was president of Wiklund Research & Design, Inc., a medical product-focused human factors consulting firm acquired by UL Solutions in 2012. 

A Certified Human Factors Professional, Wiklund has over four decades of experience in human factors engineering, much of which has focused on medical technology development. He has deep experience optimizing the interactions of people with hardware and software user interfaces as well as user documentation. He is author, co-author, or editor of several books on human factors, including User Interface Requirements for Medical Devices, Usability Testing of Medical Devices, Handbook of Human Factors in Medical Device Design, and Medical Device Use Error – Root Cause Analysis. He is also a primary author of today's most pertinent standards and guidelines on human factors engineering of medical devices: AAMI HE75 and IEC 62366-1. 



Julee Henry, lead human factors specialist

Julee Henry is a lead human factors specialist with Emergo by UL’s Human Factors Research & Design (HFR&D) team. She has been with the team since 2022. She has 12 years of experience leading HFE activities, user interface design, conducting user research, and leading multidisciplinary user experience teams in the U.S. and in China. Henry advises customers on global regulatory strategies, helps customers conduct user research and usability testing, and develops key human factors documents, including usability test protocols, HFE analyses, and HFE reports. She holds an M.S. in Human Factors Engineering from Virginia Tech.
